This lovely votive sized candle holder is based on Frank Lloyd Wright's Robie House Window 51.
Frank Lloyd Wright designed his Prairie style masterpiece, the Frederick C. Robie House, Chicago, Illinois, in 1908 from his Oak Park studio. This distinctive structure, which was commissioned by a local engineer, is renowned as a forerunner of modernism in architecture. The home, recognized by its deep cantilevered roof and no obvious door on its street facade, is punctuated by over 170 art glass windows which enhance its openness. Their color and delicate geometric diamond and chevron shapes are abstractions of the surrounding foliage. The design of this product is based on the art glass of a casement window identified as No. 51. The Robie House is a National Historic Landmark and UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This votive candle holder is designed after the Robie House 51 window made of glass and poly resin with the Frank Lloyd Wright Collection logo in front. It measures about 2.25 x 3.25 inches.
Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) is recognized worldwide as one of the greatest architects of the 20th century. His work heralded a new thinking in architecture, using innovation in design and engineering made possible by newly developed technology and materials. His creative ability extended far beyond the borders of architecture and into graphic design, furniture, art glass, linens, and decorative products for the home.
Wright designed well over 4,000 leaded glass windows and doors for more than 150 of his buildings. He often referred to them as “light screens,†a term that evokes Japanese shoji screens, where they were arranged in bands like his windows. Wright created leaded glass designs for doors, skylights, back-lit ceiling panels, table lamps and wall sconces as well as for windows.
