This leaded glass Wisteria panel was one of several transom windows designed for the dining room in Laurelton Hall, Tiffany’s Long Island estate. Enjoying the lavenders and blues of the wisteria blossoms, Tiffany designed these windows in an Art Nouveau style, more lyrical than many of his earlier works.
After 1893 Louis Comfort Tiffany began to experiment in free-blown glass. The outcome was “a composition of various colored glasses [that] worked together while hot.” This unique blown glass came to be known as Favrile. The distinctive trademark, chosen by Tiffany or one of his associates and registered in 1894, would become a household word. An 1896 brochure stated that the word was derived from the Old English word “febrile,” meaning “belonging to a craftsman or his craft.”
This reproduction painstakingly captures all the magnificent color and detail of the original in a reproduction that will be the centerpiece wherever you install it. Glass is printed in full color to reproduce the look of the original at a fraction of the price. The glass panel is framed with metal and comes with both a hanging chain and a wood display base.
